Dynamic. Innovative. Responsive. Vibrant. Unique. All of these adjectives aptly describe today's Center for Photographic Art (CPA) in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California. The CPA
Board and staff are dedicated to exceeding members' expectations by envisioning and implementing a diverse focal point for photographic invention on the West Coast.
Through exhibitions, lectures and panel discussions, intimate critiques, monthly gatherings and workshops with distinguished guest artists, curators and educators, the CPA is fulfilling its
commitment to meet the needs of both old and new generations of photographers and photography enthusiasts—here on the Monterey Peninsula and around the world. We invite you to join and take advantage of these exciting programs!
The renowned Friends of Photography, founded in 1967 by such luminaries as Ansel Adams, Brett Weston, Wynn Bullock and Morley Baer, was grounded in the regional traditions of California's incomparable Central Coast. Since 1992, the
CPA has operated as a community that practices, supports and advances photography as a vital art form in the very same space that the Friends of Photography once occupied at the historic Sunset Center.
The Center for Photographic Art believes that photography is a powerful language for creating, interpreting and expressing meaning. Informed by the traditions of mentorship, respect for craft and mutual support, the CPA is committed to
artistic development, creative inquiry, and education.
To ensure that this valuable community continues to flourish, the Center for Photographic Art needs you: your participation, your passion, your membership and your support. Whether you are an amateur or professional photographer,
photography student, collector or ardent disciple of this art form, please consider joining (or renewing your membership in) the CPA. At the same time, indulge yourself in our
exciting 2011–2012 Fine Print Program, an incredible chance
to add to your photography collection at significantly reduced prices while helping to sustain the CPA's important goals.
